I was studying at Ramakrishna Mission, Narendrapur ā Batch of 1999.
Like every other day, we followed our strict daily routine:
Woke up at 5 AM, did PT, study hall, breakfast, then school.
After school, came back for a bath and lunch, then classes again.
Evening playtime, then dinner, and finally back to our dorm rooms.
That night, after a round of casual chatting with my roommates, I dozed off like every other day.
But that night... something was different.
Something Iād never experienced before.
And even now ā 22 years later ā I remember every second of that dream.
š In the dreamā¦
It felt like early morning.
Light outsideā¦
But I was still fast asleep.
Suddenly ā I heard a commotion.
People were shouting!
And then came the shock of a lifetimeā¦
Right in the pond beside our hostel building ā
A gigantic blue whale had appeared from nowhere! š
Yes, a whale! Taking up the entire pond!
But what truly blew everyoneās mind?
That whale was talking.
Yes⦠talking.
Not just talking ā
It was chanting the Gayatri Mantra! šļø
āOm Bhur Bhuvah Swaha⦠Tat Savitur Varenyamā¦ā
Everyone was in disbelief, some terrified, others frozen in awe.
Even our Headmaster, Maharaj, came rushing to witness this miracle.
People tried speaking to the whale.
Tried questioning it.
But no responseā¦
Only the same mantra⦠over and over again.
No one could understand what was going on.
At first, we all thought ā maybe itās a prank?
A recording?
But then we saw it with our own eyesā¦
The whale was chanting.
Loud and clear.
And then⦠I woke up.
But the shouting outside was still going on!
Still sleepy, I thought something real might be happening outside.
We usually lived on the ground floor ā I donāt remember the exact room number now.
So I stepped out ā just wrapped in a towel.
What I heard next gave me goosebumps:
The whale ā speaking to Maharaj ā said:
āOnly a fisherman who is also a Brahmin⦠must whisper the Gayatri Mantra in my ear. Only then⦠Iāll be free. Otherwise, I cannot leave.
Iāve somehow been teleported here from the Bay of Bengal⦠I donāt know how.ā
And I thought ā wait⦠I am a Brahminā¦
And I used to go fishing with my father as a childā¦
So that kind of makes me a Brahmin-fisherman, right?
But honestly, I was scared. Who wouldnāt be?
A ladder was arranged.
With trembling hands, everyone helped place it near the whaleās ear.
And thenā¦
I climbed the ladder.
Bare-chested.
Only a towel wrapped around me.
Trembling.
Climbing up⦠slippingā¦
Climbing again.
Finallyā¦
I reached the top,
And began chanting the Gayatri Mantra,
With all the strength and faith I had.
I chanted for almost 2 minutes.
Then suddenly ā
The whale vanished.
Poof!
As if it turned into a mosquito and flew away!
Gone!
Next thing I knew ā
I was at a waterfall, bathing peacefully.
And from a distanceā¦
A voice echoedā¦
āDipak, wake up!ā
Eyes opened.
My teacher was pouring a bucket of water on my face.
I hadnāt woken up yet.
I was late for PT.
Startled, I sat up.
Took a few seconds to process what just happened.
And then it hit me...
It was all a dream.
A dream so vivid, so detailed, that even today,
22 years later, I remember every single moment.
And todayā¦
I finally decided to write it down.
Have you ever experienced something so strange, so bizarre ā
whether in a dream or real life ā that even now you question if it really happened?
If you haveā¦
share your story.
Letās talk about it.
And if you enjoyed reading this one,
Leave a ā¤ļø, comment your thoughts, and share it with someone who loves a good story.
